Cupcake Surprise!

Cupcake Surprise! by Lynn Maslen Kertell

Today is Jack and Ana's dad's birthday and they have decided to surprise him and bake some cupcakes.  They find the cookbook, gather the ingredients and along the way they have a couple of unexpected surprises of their own.
Cupcake Surprise! is an early reader book, a new addition to the BOB books family.  The book has easy to sound-out words, sight words, and simple sentences. The story is engaging and offers many opportunities to check comprehension skills along the way, as well as sequencing and  predicting activities.  The back of the book has 16 cut out flash cards to practice vocabulary and fluency.  Great addition to the early reader libraries at home and in the K-1 classrooms.

  1. My Lil Guy loves making, frosting, and eating cupcakes. I bet he would like this book. I don't know much about Bob books, do you recommend them? Where do you start? My son is showing emergent reading skills. We already read (a lot) of books at home daily, but now I am ready to start him with some books to start his skills. I would love your suggestion. :)

    1. The BOB books have really helped my 4yr old transition into reading independently. Once he knew all the letter sounds he was ready to start reading them in order, starting with book#1. He's gone through over 15 of them and always gets excited to see what the next one would look like and seeing the number of words he can read increase each time. The illustrations are not exciting but I've found the text to be truly scaffoled to help the kids become independent readers. Hope that helps!
