     Cal lives very high up in the Appalachian Mountains.  He rather work in the fields or watch the sheep than try to read like his little sister.  His sister borrows her books from the Book Woman who always makes the difficult trek up the mountain, regardless of how bad it is outside.
    This tender and moving tale is based on the real stories of the Pack Horse Librarians, who helped countless numbers of children discover the wonders of reading all over the Appalachians.
