A Ball for Daisy is a wordless book by Caldecott Medalist Chris Raschka. Daisy loves her red ball. She plays with it at home, takes naps with it on the couch and brings it along when her owner takes her out for a walk. One day, while on a walk, Daisy was playing with her red ball when a brown dog came along and started mouthing the ball. Unfortunately, the brown dog bit down too hard and popped Daisy's red ball. Daisy was heartbroken and just stood there staring at her now flat ball until her owner picked it up and tossed it in the trash. Daisy laid on her couch deflated and blue, missing her red ball. Her owner tries to console her and takes her out for a walk, where they meet up with the brown dog and its owner who brings a new blue ball for Daisy. Daisy loves her new blue ball and we end the story with her cuddled up in the couch with her new toy.
A Ball for Daisy is beautifully illustrated by Raschka. Kids will relate to Daisy's feelings of loss over a broken toy and the connection we might have with our favorite toys.
